Sydney – 06 February, 2007 – Sony Ericsson recently enabled the Sony Foundation Australia to make a dream come true for one of its Children’s Holiday Camp attendees. Sixteen year-old Alex Baker of Corinda, a long time Robbie Williams fan, attends Inala Special School. Sony Ericsson and Sony Foundation Australia gave Alex the surprise of his life by making it possible for him to attend Robbie’s Close Encounters Tour concert in Brisbane last December.
Sony Ericsson is serious about its corporate social responsibilities and is a core element of the Sony Foundation Australia, which enhances the lives of children with disabilities by giving them the chance to experience fun and fellowship through the Holiday Camp program.
These camps give high school students the opportunity to take time out from their school holidays to care for children with special needs during four days of fun activities. As well as providing students with an enriching experience, the camps also offer parents, whose lives revolve around the needs of their child, a weekend to relax and spend quality time with other family members. Alex was able to attend the Children’s Holiday Camp at Marist College Ashgrove.
During the camp Alex made no secret of his love for Robbie Williams. It was a sentiment both he and Andrew Van Horen, his Companion and dux of Marist College, shared. When Sony Ericsson, a partner of the Sony Foundation Australia, got wind of this they made tickets available through their sponsorship of the Robbie Williams Close Encounters Tour so that Andrew and Alex could attend the Brisbane event together and receive a behind the scenes tour.
‘I had a great time at the Holiday Camp, enjoying swimming, games, boat rides and a day at Movieworld,’ said Alex. “I made some great friends but the best friend I made was my carer Andrew who always looked after me. I was so sad to say goodbye at the end of the camp. I couldn’t believe it when Andrew called me to say we were going to see Robbie!’
‘Taking Alex to the Robbie Williams concert was a fantastic experience,’ said Andrew. ‘It was a dream come true for him. Thank you so much to the Sony Foundation and Sony Ericsson for making it happen.’
