Black Swan Theatre Company was established in 1991 and is regarded as one of Australia′s leading theatre companies. Under the chairmanship of Mrs Janet Holmes à Court and Artistic Director Andrew Ross, Black Swan has produced a string of critically acclaimed landmark productions.
The Sony Foundation makes it possible for students who may be physically or economically disadvantaged or separated by geographical distance to experience the theatre by offering discounted tickets to Black Swan Theatre Company productions. Students are also given the opportunity to get a behind the scenes look into the production of a play through free pre-show talks and backstage tours.
The Black Swan also runs the Be Active BSX Theatre — The HotBed which allows emerging theatre actors, directors, designers and composers to develop their skills, before they are launched into the professional theatre industry.
2006′s twenty HotBed artists have completed a workshop with Perth′s internationally renowned Song of the Goat Theatre Company, assisted on Accidental Death of an Anarchist, facilitated their own workshops, rigorously rehearsed Falling Petals performed in May at the intimate Blue Room Theatre, and trod the boards with other Western Australian professional companies.
